This is inflammation of the outer layers of the eye. It is relatively common in both cats, dogs and rabbits. It can be caused by injury of all shapes and forms, by infection - viral and bacterial and may be of allergic origin. It usually shows itself as pain, inflammation and discharge involving one or both eyes. Some recent research on dogs indicated that a little more than half of the cases investigated were actually caused by allergy.

We believe any inflammation of the eye should be taken seriously.

Many cases, especially in cats, maybe the result of more serious underlying diseases such as Flu or Chlamydia.
